Frequently asked questions:
Do you have free admission days?
Yes! We offer FREE admission every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00a to 4:00p.
Exceptions: county holidays, when the building is closed
What if I plan to bring a large group?
If you are coming on 1 of our free-admission days (MWF, 10 to 4), there is no need to schedule with us. If your group would like a private tour (donation required), we do those on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment.
What about parking?
There is FREE parking all around the building. Additionally, at the rear of the building, there is a parking lot marked for guests and a parking garage you can use, at the intersection of 20th and Ball Streets.
Is the museum accessible?
Yes. The best place to park is the Guest Lot at the rear of our building, at the intersection of 20th and Ball. There is a ramp at this entrance.
What is the Padlock Mystery Game?
We place 4 locked boxes around the museum. Clues from the exhibits help you open the boxes as you collect parts to make a fun take-away. This game requires a donation and a reservation. Click here to learn more.
Was the museum once in a different building?
Yes. From 1976-2008 the museum was located in the historic City National Bank building on Market Street. That building was damaged by Hurricane Ike, and eventually the museum moved to the current location inside the county courthouse on 21st Street.
How do I donate an artifact?
Our museum accepts artifacts and archives related to Galveston County history. If you have something you would like to donate, please make an appointment to meet with a staff member by calling 409.766.2340.
Can I get a tour with museum staff?
We offer guided tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment for a donation. Call 409.766.2340 to schedule.
